With the tagline, “Have you spoken your treasure language today?,” the Akuma Project (a platform for the documentation of disappearing oral languages) is holding an event focusing on storytelling and word games in Tigrigna, Iu Mien, and other small languages spoken in Oakland, California, on Sunday, December 13, 2015.
The project aims at bringing ongoing research into mapping linguistic diasporas (and/or mapping diasporas through language) to the public. It also highlights the diasporic fabric of the San Francisco Bay Area. Robyn Perry, a participant in the Mapping Diasporas Working Group, is one of the researchers involved in this project.
